TSRgrow LED Lighting vs. Traditional LED Lighting

How profitable and sustainable growing can be achieved using Lighting as a Platform™ (LaaP)

Plants use photons emitted from light for photosynthesis and growth. Photons or simply light particles are collected by protein-chlorophyll (Chl) -  carotenoids and moved to the leaves' photosystem center where electrons are produced. When there are fewer photons in light, photosynthesis can't work effectively.

For many years now, fluorescent lamps, xenon, and High-Pressure Sodium and Ceramic metal halide lighting fixtures have been the primary light sources used in indoor horticultural farming. Originally designed for lighting buildings and streets, compared to LED light sources, their photosynthetic efficiency is low and heat emission and maintenance costs are high.

Introducing Lighting as a Platform: TSRgrow LED Lighting

Modern-day LED lighting fixtures for agriculture are more energy efficient, deliver more photons with broader spectrums, facilitate more plant growth than fluorescent and HID lamps. These LED lighting fixtures have seen increased adoption in the cultivation of flowers, cannabis, and vegetables.

TSRgrow LED Lighting, on the other hand, designed from the ground up for commercial horticulture applications, takes LED lighting to a whole new level with full plant spectrums, remote power servers, ultra-modern system integration, and simplified installation and maintenance.

TSRgrow LED lighting has further launched Lighting as a Platform™ (LaaP) in agriculture. LaaP is the connection of lighting with sensors, automation of on, off, or dimming functions, and integration with data analytics to track and control growth parameters in the cultivation environment. Lighting becomes more than just light. Lighting becomes a Solution.

Differences Between LED Lighting and TSRgrow LED Lighting

All grow lights are not created equal. A look at traditional LED Lighting vs. TSRgrow LED Lighting reveals clear differences in the spectrum, control, photobiological efficiency, and system layout.

By decoupling the ballast from the light fixture and integrating centrally located remote power servers, TSRgrow LED Lighting solves many of the biggest challenges farmers experience with traditional LED lighting in Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) facilities:

Lighting-as-a-Platform-DiagramWhy Remote Power Servers

Traditional LED fixtures require onboard ballasts which limit the power of the fixture, require additional dimming wires for control and complicate installation and maintenance.

By removing ballasts from the fixture and integrating remote power servers located outside of the grow room and away from the fixtures, TSRgrow LED lighting becomes a platform with unparalleled functionality. TSRgrow remote power servers are a server based platform that allows for full control of the lights with real-time tracking of power consumption with sunrise, sunset and full dimming control. This advanced power flow management puts unparalleled performance in the hands of management, operation, and maintenance.

Performance Lighting

Decoupling the ballast from the fixture allows for more flexibility in lighting arrangement, location and output. High performance fixtures deliver up to 1000W and upwards of 2600 μmol/s of full spectrum light, for optimal photosynthesis. Eliminating heat from the grow room.

On board ballasts mean more heat in the grow room. More heat means more HVACD equipment and higher temperatures to cool in the grow room. TSRgrow remote power servers remove all ballast heat from the grow rooms. This reduces the heat load in the grow area which in turn significantly reduces the CAPx investment required for HVACD equipment.

Wiring and Dimming

With power and dimming on the same cable, installation wiring is simplified and full dimmability of LED fixtures is realized and controlled remotely through the TSRgrow LED Lighting Platform. Traditional LED fixtures require additional dimming wires to be installed for each fixture and often have limited dimming control and efficiency through the dimming range.

Maintenance

Centrally located remote power servers reduce maintenance costs. No more climbing over the plants or in the grow room when a ballast fails. Remotely monitored, alerts can be established for routine and unscheduled events. Remote monitoring allows facility managers to always be in the know.

System Integration

TSRgrow LED Lighting introduces a single platform where growers can monitor and control not just lighting but also other growth factors, including temperature, humidity, CO2, VPD, nutrient levels, air circulation and more. TSRgrow Lighting as a Platform LaaP allows growers to track data, set notifications, record and compare conditions from one grow to another and provide for remote access dashboards for real time strategies for high productivity.
